JIM AND FRED WERE BACK

Jim and Fred Price, who met through being fellow members of Leigh Camera Club were back in Leigh for last week’s meeting with Jim giving his illustrated talk, "Every Picture Tells a Story." That really accurately describes exactly what the evening was about. Jim spent all his working life in the army and despite serving in locations like Northern Ireland and Malaya he has very few photographs of those years for he just was not interested in photography in those days and all the small pictures we saw of Army life were taken with the most basic of cameras that his mother gave him in his teens. But what he lacked in pictures of those days he made up for with wonderfully pithy stories. |

When he retired from the army he was looking for a hobby and joined a course in photography at one of the local adult education colleges and joined Leigh Camera Club as an absolute beginner. From the beginning Jim proved to be one of the most enthusiastic photographers I have ever met and quickly he progressed, going on shoots with Fred Scott and in the end they joined forces in marriage. They were both enthusiasts for embracing digital technology and Jim quickly became the foremost exponent of the craft in the club and we saw his progression with Fred bringing him back to reality with her pungent comments on Thursday. Jim also at the same time became a key member of the committee and he worked for hours on end and left a big gap when the couple moved to North Essex, which has never really been properly filled. |

Thank you Jim and Fred for the evening and do not make it too long before we see you again. |
