TWO FASCINATING TALKS BY CHRIS AND DAVE

Fascinating illustrated talks which were the equal of  many given by lecturers on the photographic lecture circuit were given by two club members on Thursday, January 31, which were  contrasted in  their photographic experience by many years.

First up was Chris Lawrence, who only took up serious photography in 2006 when he caught the photographic bug and joined Leigh Camera Club.

His main interest is nature photography and he showed digital slides from his first stumbling steps to some very competent recent work.  What was clear was his interest in learning the tricks of the trade

and  he spoke of the help given by various books which he showed and in particular his list of nearby bird and animal sanctuaries with in Essex.

In contrast, the hugely experienced David Davenport gave lots of  tips for beginners and experienced members alike from his 30 years membership  during which time he has published three books on photography, had countless articles published in every sort of  photographic and local history journal and won many lucrative prizes in public contests.

He pointed out in a fascinating 50 minute talk that it was often pictures poorly rated by club judges that excelled in other spheres and urged people to always look at the market and pictures already submitted to become a winner.

The ultimate triumph for David were the two small television documentaries made on him and his work, which resulted in instant fame and have enabled him to continue publishing to this day.

It is to be hoped he will continue this talk in the not too distant future  for it was a real revelation.
