Monthly Competitions`

Competitions are held between members of the club, members of other clubs and members of the whole group of clubs called the East Anglian Federation.

In our club, we have Colour Print, Monochrome Print and Transparency competitions. The Colour print attracts the most members, and therefore we limit the number of prints to 2. The mono and transparency have 3 pictures each.

There are 5 Colour Print competitions per annum, and 3 monochrome and 3 transparency.

I will skip the full details of the rules, but when preparing for the first time, remember that the mounted image should be no larger than 20x16 inches or 500 x 400 mm. (Whichever is the greatest)

If you want to enter EAF competitions, then make the mount 500x400mm or it will be refused. Too many small prints were damaging large prints by sliding around in the carry cases, so a rule was made over size.

Interclub Competitions

We try to have a number of inter-club competitions each year, which ensures we do not stay insular and allow our standards to drop. These are usually between fairly local clubs.

Challenge Trophy

This is an annual competition where members must take a picture on a given theme, for instance - Dawn or Dusk. A cup is awarded to the winner.

Annual Exhibition

This is the big one for all members. There are 12 sections into which prints can be entered, the first three reserved for members who have never won an award. Traditionally, this has been an end of year event before we break for the summer, but in a major change of policy, the Annual now opens the year, so visitors to the exhibition can join the club immediately and not wait for weeks for the new term. With a maximum of 6 prints/transparencies per section, a new member might be able to get 60 pictures in. This doesn't happen of course, and we typically get 300-500 images. The full rules for entry can be via this link.
